Bruno-80

Eight voices.
Each note responds
to your touch.

BRUNO-80 recreates the Yamaha CS-80 in software, including its voice architecture, controls and expressive response. Each of its eight voices responds independently to pressure, so you can make one note swell or brighten without affecting the rest of the chord. Try the controls below. The demo runs the actual BRUNO-80 DSP.

Polyphonic aftertouch

Press one note harder. The rest stay put.

Most synths apply one pressure value to the whole keyboard, so pressing harder on any key makes every note swell. Bruno 80 tracks each note and voice separately. Add pressure to the top note of a chord, and only that note grows brighter.

BRUNO-80 sound engine

VCO

The oscillator core models the original chip's design. It produces saw, square, and sine waves, with PWM modulation and pulse-width control.

Speed · PWM · PW · Noise

VCF

A 12 dB high-pass filter feeds a 12 dB low-pass filter, each with its own resonance. Filters are modeled exactly as the original chip's behave.

HPF · ResH · LPF · ResL · IL · AL · A · D · R

VCA

Set the filter gain, mix in a pure sine after the filter, shape the sound with a slow ADSR that has a broad range and adjust the final level.

Gain · Sin · A · D · S · R · Vol

Touch

Each layer routes a note's initial touch and aftertouch separately to brilliance and level.

Initial · After · Brilliance · Level

Sub Osc

The global sub oscillator has six functions, adjustable speed and separate depth controls for pitch, filter and amplitude. Aftertouch can also raise its speed and the modulation depths.

Function · Speed · VCO · VCF · VCA

Pitch

Choose a range from 16′ to 2′ for each layer, detune layer II against layer I to achieve a wider sound with beating movement.

Feet I · Feet II · Detune · Mix
